Rather boring day at work. Half the day taken up in a meeting which left too little time for really accomplishing anything. Still, set up some experiments for tomorrow which will work (of course), and the results will be of publishable quality (of course).

Anyway back off home, been leaving very early recently and as J is on holiday I don't get to see him mornings.

After that, dinner, then perhaps a short walk before J's bedtime.

Then job applications, some writing up of results and perhaps a chance to polish my chops on me axe. I'm in the midst of learning the Minuet from Bach's Cello Sonata No. 1.

Now you know why I blog so infrequently :-)

Beautiful things (in no particular order)

Porcelain

Moon vase

Manta Ray
Anyone know of an aquarium with one?

Bamboo dragonfly a.k.a. bamboo copter
Invented in China 2,200 years ago, I had a plastic one as a kid with only a slightly modified design

A mathematician named Klein
Thought the Möbius band was divine.
Said he: "If you glue
The edges of two,
You'll get a weird bottle like mine."

Orchids

Barkeria naevosa, I had one that died through over-watering :-( but not before my wife, S, made a beautiful
painting (will scan it someday)

Fan vaulting

"Gothic is living form" William Blake

VacuVin WineMaster corkscrew
(perfect marriage of form and function)

Diatoms (because small is beautiful too)

Gibson SG Double neck (to unleash the Jimmy Page in you). Has to be in cherry red of course.

SR71-Blackbird (if my father was Warren Buffett, this will be on my Xmas list)

Damn, already broke my resolution :-) Couldn't help it, weather was just too nice. Took J for a walk after dinner yesterday and went fossil-hunting on a nearby river bed. The dry spell has exposed more of the shingle bank but we didn't find as many fossils as we had hoped. Just some crinoid stalks, a well preserved fragment of an echinoderm and a nice tubeworm cast. Will post some pics later (promise)

Well, I'll try to keep to one entry or photo per day. For now I'm off home. My son J is obsessed with the downstairs neighbours cat and the prey it brings back. So we tend to spend some lazy summer evenings just looking out over the lawn. All fresh kills will be uploaded!!!
Welcome my friends, to the show that never ends!

Not terribly original, I'm afraid

Wait, my friends are on FaceBook, this blogs gonna be viewed by random visitors

And its not exactly a show sensu stricto

And of course it'll end (most likely sooner rather than later!)

Oh well, it'll be onwards and upwards from here on at least!
